Currently, only 35% of adults have well-aligned front teeth. And while Americans like to sneer at the rest of the world for even slightly out-of-place teeth, it’s completely normal to have alignment problems. However, for Canadians who want to improve their smile, there’s good dental news on the horizon. A revolutionary teeth alignment therapy approach is on its way to Canada.
According to Markets Insider, SmileDirectClub, the creator of an at-home, doctor-directed invisible aligner therapy, announced in early November that it is bringing its teledentistry platform to Canadian dental patients. This revolutionary approach doesn’t just improve teeth alignment, it actually saves a significant amount of money. In fact, teledentistry enables patients to straighten their teeth for as much as 60% less than the price of other dental straightening options.
“We believe the whole world deserves a smile they love, and we’re eager to expand our mission of increasing access to care by launching in Canada,” said Alex Fenkell, co-founder of SmileDirectClub. “More than 300,000 customers in the U.S. have used SmileDirectClub to become more confident with their improved smile, and we want to bring that newfound confidence to Canadians.”
The Founders of Nashville-based SmileDirectClub plan on opening seven brick-and-mortar SmileShops in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, and Ottawa. Prior to this release, residents in six of Canada’s 10 provinces only had access to fewer than one orthodontist per 3,861 square miles.
“Across Canada, our customers will have access to dentists and orthodontists who are licensed in the province where they live,” added Jeffery Sulitzer, DMD, chief clinical officer at SmileDirectClub. “The treatment is doctor-prescribed and doctor-directed. Every customer’s case is overseen and monitored by a doctor through our teledentistry model. We are making orthodontic solutions more affordable and convenient than ever before.”
SmileDirectClub was founded in 2014 and now employs 3,000 people. After a recent $380 million investment led by private equity firm Clayton Dubilier and Rice, SmileDirectClub is currently valued at $3.2 billion.
